Guidance
Staff can assist with a wide range of issues from student finance,
CV writing, childcare, accommodation to progression and personal problems.
All interviews are impartial and issues outwith the skills of the staff
can be referred to relevant agencies with your permission.
A variety of information leaflets are available on topics
such as finance, childcare, part-time study and other guidance
issues.
Many of our leaflets are printed in several languages, reflecting the
international nature of Anniesland College student population.
The college runs a Buddies Scheme which new students are
welcome to join. This aims to bring Scottish and International
students together on an informal basis to arrange various
social events. A leaflet including an application form is
available from student services. Staff are available to carry out appropriate guidance and support
at all of our centres.
You can contact guidance staff by email at e-guidance@anniesland.ac.uk by text on 07990 647 492, or
by phone on 0141 657 6016. You can also visit Student Services or make an appointment with the Guidance
Co-ordinator to meet at any of our centres.
Course Guidance is offered at four stages:
Pre-entry
You will be given the opportunity to explore the wide range of courses available at the college and to select the most appropriate according to your prior experience, future aspirations and your personal needs.
Induction
At the beginning of your course you will be given the opportunity to take part in induction into your course and the college which will help you to familiarise yourself with your new surroundings and the demands which will be placed upon you in terms of assessment and conduct. You will meet your course tutor, lecturers and staff from Student Services and individual Support for Learning needs will be put in place.
On-going
During programmes of study, guidance is provided by regular interviews with course tutors and other guidance staff. Full-time students take part in group guidance and receive a minimum of 3 individual interviews per session when you can discuss individual problems and needs. Students are represented on all course review teams and guidance is an agenda item. You will have the opportunity to review your progress and achievements. Guidance will be tailored to meet the needs of specific programmes.
Exit
Appropriate guidance is available to enable you to review your career goals and to assist your progression into further study or employment. After studying at the College, a follow up survey will establish the post-course destination of students and will obtain feedback on college provision.

Medical Requirements
We have a full complement of trained first aiders and fully stocked first aid rooms.
A list of Doctors and Dentists is available from the Student Services Unit.
It is important that anyone who requires medication on a
permanent basis, or who has special requirements, such as nut allergies for example,
should discuss their needs with the Guidance Co-ordinator, Sandra Lumsden, when they enrol
Our confidentiality is guaranteed.

Help with Childcare
Anniesland College encourages parents to return to study as for those with children the absence of child care can be a barrier. You must investigate the range of child care support available through other agencies prior to applying to the college for child care support. This includes:
• Day care nurseries
• Free or subsidised after school care
• New Deal
• SAAS Lone parents grant
• Working tax Credit
The college manages a range of child care funds which provide support to students with young children. Lone parents will be given priority. Children must attend whenever possible, if attendance at nursery falls below 80% in a four week period you will be asked to attend an interview. If it continues, funding may be withdrawn.
The college can make a contribution towards the cost of:
• nursery care in the college or a college funded creche
• a registered childminder
Payment is only made for the days that you actually attend college classes (term time only). Normally full time students may receive up to £5,500, ESF and ESOL students may receive up to £3,600 and part time students may receive up to £2,750 toward their child care costs. The contract is between the provider and the student, any fees outwith the student’s attendance are the responsibility of the student. Child care is also available to students on flexible learning courses, 13 half days per unit.
Once you are offered a place on a course, you must apply to student services for child care. You will be interviewed and if successful you can then apply to the nursery for a place.
Ask for an application form at Student Services.

Where can I stay?
The college does not have its own halls of residence, but our students may rent rooms at Unity Halls of Residence in nearby Yorkhill. Some students prefer to live in shared, self-catering flats, which usually cost from £60 to £70 per week (although some short term accommodation may be more expensive). An accommodation list is available from Student Services or you can visit:
www.let-a-property.info/letting-agents/Lanarkshire/Glasgow.htm for a list of local letting agents.
Other costs
Your course fee covers almost all college costs. All you will need
in addition is a small sum, from £30-£60 per year, for materials
- books, notebooks and necessary equipment.
Other living expenses depend very much on your own requirements, but
you should allow £25 to £45 per week for food. Lunch and
evening snacks can be bought in the cafeteria or you can bring your
own. You will need £10 to £20 per week for local travel.
More detailed information on course and living costs can be provided
on request.

Students’ Association
All registered students at the College are eligible to apply
for membership of the Students’ Association. The Association
provides opportunities for recreational, intellectual and
social activities.
The Association also provides a channel of communication
between the students, staff and outside bodies. Membership
of the Students’ Association entitles students to substantial
discounts on many goods and services offered nationally, by
its affiliation to the NUS. For more information contact our
Students’ Association Administrator on 0141 357 6117.
