Mission Statement
'To provide an environment in which children feel happy and secure, encouraging positive attitudes to learning'.
Aims and Objectives
Young children come to nursery as active, experienced learners with a natural curiosity. They are unique individuals eager to make sense of their world, to develop relationships and to extend their skills.
In order to achieve these aims we are committed to the following:
- To provide a safe, secure, happy and stimulating environment which will enable each child to develop as an individual and to their full potential.
- To provide the best possible standard of care.
- To work in partnership with parents to meet the individual needs of their child.
- The ongoing observation and assessment of children's learning.
- Ongoing staff development and training.
- To encourage children to enquire, experiment and explore.
- To use children's own experiences as a foundation for learning.
- To treat all children equally and foster each child's appreciation of other countries, building the good social relationships and understanding essential in today's multi-cultural society.
- To use positive reinforcement to enable each child to understand their own and others' needs and feelings.
- To develop self-esteem, confidence and independence to help ensure a smooth transition to school.
Staff of Treasure Trove Nursery aim to provide a curriculum for children aged 3-5 by following the Scottish Office guideline 'A curriculum framework for children 3-5' planning notes in conjunction with Glasgow City Council.
We aim to provide a broad and balanced curriculum which focuses on each child's age and stage of development. At all times children are stimulated to reach their full potential in all areas of cognitive, social, language, emotional and physical development through the 5 key areas of the curriculum.
The curriculum framework for children 3-5 suggest five key areas to help children become thinkers and doers.
Emotional Personal and Social Development
Children are encouraged to develop self-esteem and self-confidence through the provision of a safe, secure and stimulating environment in which children feel happy.
As a result children are able to form positive relationships where they consider the needs and beliefs of others. They learn to share, take turns, work as part of a group or independently. They are able to concentrate for a short time, persevere in their learning and seek help where needed.
We as staff will listen to what the children have to say, be consistent in response and praise. Make time for one to one activities and discussions.
Communications and Language Development
Children are encouraged to talk about their experiences with other children and adults. Listen and respond to stories, songs, recite poems and nursery rhymes. Develop their skills to understand ideas, explore and refine their thoughts.
They learn to associate sounds with words and letters, recognise letters in the alphabet by shape and sound and recognise some familiar words and their own name.
Expressive and Aesthetic Development
Children are encouraged to express and create ideas through a variety of media and to develop their own personal view in response to what they see and experience.
Through arts and crafts, music, dance, stories and imagination play they show an increasing ability to use their imagination, listening and observational skills.
Physical Development and Movement
Children are encouraged to learn more confidently with increasing control and co-ordination. As a result they develop an awareness of space and others.
Behaviour Management
We aim to provide a safe, secure and caring environment where children learn to respect each other and the adults who look after them.
We believe that part of a child's pre-school education is to learn appropriate behaviour in a social setting. Children are never labelled 'bad' or 'naughty'. Disapproval is always focussed on the behaviour and not the individual. We try to help children develop a sense of right and wrong. This involves praising acceptable behaviour as well as interviewing to deter disruptive or anti-social behaviour.
It is our aim to guide children by example and by explaining why certain kinds of behaviour are unacceptable. Should a child's behaviour prove disruptive, he or she will be removed from the situation and given something else to do, when they are ready thy will re-join the group.
Parents will be informed of any incidents involving their child and their views sought or reasons for the behaviour. If necessary longer term strategies for helping children overcome behavioural issues will be jointly developed with staff and parents. With the agreement of the parents the advice of other professionals may be sought.
It is our policy that if other agencies such as Behavioural, Clinical or Educational Psychologists deem our nursery environment not suitable for your child, your child will be withdrawn.
Knowledge and Understanding the World
Children are encouraged to develop their natural curiosity and are provided with opportunities which allow them to explore and understand using all of their senses.
They broaden their knowledge by experimenting and investigating the world around them. As a result they ask questions to gain knowledge and understanding of how things work and why things happen. They learn to recognise patterns, shapes, sort, match, sequence and count.
Accidents
All accidents will be reported verbally to the parents concerned. Major accidents will be recorded in the accident book which is kept in the office.
First Aid
The first aid kit is located in the main office and a smaller one in each room. Designated college first aiders will be used if required.
Fire
Our procedure is clearly displayed on the notice board detailing all exits. It should be your main priority to exit the building in the event of a fire.

Baby Room
At Treasure Trove our aim is to provide a stimulating environment for all children in our care. In the Baby Room, for 0 - 2 year olds, we focus on activities which offer stimulus to the babies five senses:-
- Touch
- Sight
- Smell
- Hearing
- Taste
We provide resources which allow our children to explore and experiment.
Although we do not follow a formal curriculum, we aim to have structure in our day. We offer activities which cover the five key aspects of the 3 - 5 curriculum.
Staff in the Baby Room provide opportunities for the babies to experience the Treasure Basket and Heuristic Play.
Treasure Basket
The Treasure Basket is used with babies who can sit up but who are not yet mobile. The basket is filled with objects which are natural materials and not plastic. The activity helps to stimulate the senses and begins to give an understanding of the world.
Heuristic Play
Heuristic Play is presented to children who are mobile. Objects are arranged in order to stimulate their curiosity and fulfil their desire to experiment. There are a large number of objects to choose from, which helps to ensure that the children have a positive experience as they do not have to 'share' the resources.
The Baby Room is registered for nine babies aged 6 weeks to 2 years. We have three fully qualified nursery nurses to help look after your babies needs.
All babies must be able to take their feed from a bottle. Snacks are available and lunch is provided by our college canteen and is served at 12:30pm. If you prefer, you can provide your own lunch, as long as it does not require to be reheated.
Nursery policy states that you cannot leave your child until he/she is secure and comfortable within the nursery environment. When you are allocated a place we will also arrange visits, so that you and your child become familiar with staff. As we treat each child as an individual, we cannot foresee how long these visits will go on, it depends on how well your child settles.
Students: Your baby can only attend nursery when you are in class. A timetable of your lectures will be required when you start.
