The sun may not exactly have had his hat on, but at least the weather was dry and mild for this year?s Graduation and Awards ceremony at the Bute hall within Glasgow University.
As usual, the grand hall was packed with graduates, their families and friends and provided a morning that they will remember for the rest of their lives.
The Chairman of the Board of Management, Ken MacAldowie, welcomed the assembly and introduced guest speaker Scott Taylor, the Chief Executive of the Glasgow City Marketing Bureau whose speech was entertaining and uplifting. Then the Depute Principal, Brian Hughes, introduced the Diplomates and Award Winners who took to the podium to accept their citations.
There were two awards for overall outstanding achievement. The first, sponsored by the Scottish Qualifications Authority, and which recognized personal achievement, was presented to John McClelland who had earlier graduated with an HND in Business Administration. John was judged to have overcome some very challenging personal difficulties despite an earlier ?Chaotic lifestyle? and was now studying at Glasgow Caledonian University.
The Chairman?s Award, presented to the student who had made a significant contribution to the wider community, went to Olena Kalynovska of HNC Dance (Community). Elena, a student from the Ukraine, had overcome difficulties of language to not only achieve at college, but to volunteer at Dance House, an organisation that supports the development of dance artists and brings dance to the community through its education and outreach programme.

Other award winners were:
Sean McLaughlin
(Outstanding student in the School of Computing)
Adrienne Trodden
