Action for Children - .a children's charity that supports and speaks out for the UK's most vulnerable and neglected children and young people.

Who Cares? - Who cares? Scotland provides advocacy and support for young people in care.

Scottish Institute for Residential Child Care - Contains research information and links to their library and other databases.

Equal Opportunities

Equality & Human Rights Commission -  A statutory body that has the responsibility to protect, enforce and promote equality across the seven "protected" grounds - age, disability, gender, race, religion and belief, sexual orientation and gender reassignment.

General

Channel 4 - Variety of sources, current news items and links to subject specific sites e.g. Mental Health, stress, careers etc.

Intute: Internet for Social Work - A free tutorial on the web for students, lecturers and researchers of Social Work who want to make more of the Internet. Tour key internet sites for social work, discover how to improve your internet search skills, review the skills needed to initially evaluate internet resources, reflect on practical ideas for using the internet to support your studies.

Social Research - This site gives current trends in relation to population, housing issues, diet, gender, education, etc. It is useful for gaining factual information rather than subjective or anecdotal evidence.

SQA - Current issues in relation to education and training and accredited courses. Has link to Care Commission which highlights charges in legislation and the implication of this for social care/social work.

Independent Living

National Centre for Independent Living - Website includes online discussion and notices of public debates on independent living.

Legislation

Legislation - Information on Government Legislation, full text of many Acts of Parliament are available online.

Scottish Executive - Official website of Scottish Executive. Includes information on news, research, initiatives, etc in all areas of Scottish Executive. Topic index includes Communities, Education and Training, Health and Community Care, Older People, Young People, Research and Statistics.

Mental Health

Depression Alliance - A variety of topics in here including relevant reading materials, self help groups, explanation of the illness, research issues etc.

See Me Scotland - See Me Scotland is a campaign to break down the stigma of mental ill-health and the website contains many personal stories from those with mental ill-health.

British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapists - The major British lead body site detailing accredited counsellors, ethics and guidelines and advice on how to practice as a counsellor in the UK.

COSCA - A Scottish site covering the practice of counselling and the routes to Accreditation for practitioners; the training that is available to individuals, the requirements for developing validated training courses, and the accreditation of trainers and the role of supervision.

Counselling & Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body - Counselling & Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body. An awarding body providing counselling training throughout the UK.

Key Organisations

Age Scotland - The new force combining Help The Aged and Age Concern.

Barnardo's - Provides information on the organisation and a publications section including details of policy research material. There is also a list of research links.

British Institute of Learning Disabilities - Provides access to fact sheets on key topics in learning disability, information on training and learning services. Policy and research information is also included.

Department of Health - Information on all aspects of the Department of health, includes health and social care guidance, publications and policy. Health and Social care section includes information on all aspects of those areas-Training, National Care Standards Commission, Fostering and Adoption etc.

Shelter - Provides information about the work of the homeless organisation, Shelter, an explanation of the issues, facts and figures and a section on how individuals can become involved.
