Cyburbia - A comprehensive directory of resources relevant to architecture, planning, urbanism and other topics related to the build environment. Formerly called the Planning and Architecture Internet Resource Centre. Registration is required to use the site but membership is free of charge.

The Great Buildings Collection - A gateway to architecture from around the world and across history. Documents hundreds of buildings and leading architects with 3D models, photographic images and architectural drawings, plus commentaries, bibliographies, and weblinks for famous designers and structures of all kinds.

Resources for Urban Design Information (RUDI) - A multimedia resource for research and teaching in the field of urban design in the Western cultural context.

Landscape Institute - The national organisation for landscape professionals comprising designers, managers and scientists, and concerned with enhancing and conserving the environment. The Institute ensures that its members give the best possible service in the planning, design and management of open spaces, whether in rural or urban locations. 

Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) - The professional institute for all chartered architects in Scotland. It has charitable status and offers a wide range of services and products for architects, students of architecture, construction industry professionals and all those with an interest in the built environment and the design process.

Building Information Warehouse (BIW) Technologies - A developing database of online information and a showcase for integrated product specification with design drawings and coordinated models.

Association of Building Engineers (ABE) - Represents its members working in building regulation and control.

Building Cost Information Service and Building Maintenance Information - Current and accurate information on UK building costs, tender prices and building maintenance. Hosted by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

Brick Industry Association - Represents the interests of UK and Irish manufacturers of clay bricks and pavers. The voice of the industry with a membership which makes up over 96% of the UK and Ireland's total brick-making capacity.

Centre for Resourceful Building Technology - Non-profit corporation dedicated to promoting environmentally responsible practices in construction. Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers - A learned society charged with researching and publishing information about the built environment. 

Construction Industry Research and Information Association - Aims to develop best practice in the construction and environmental industries.  

International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction - A global network for international exchange and cooperation in research and innovation in building and construction in support of an improved building process and of improved performance of the built environment.

Building Conservation

National and Regional Heritage Conservation Information - Links to other heritage conservation sites throughout the world provided by Robert Gordon University. No longer updated.

UK Internet Guide to Building Conservation - Sister publication to the Building Conservation Directory. Offers a selection of articles covering such subjects as timber decay and the use of lime mortars. It also includes two useful databases providing contact details for all the main advisory bodies and all the main conservation courses and training programmes in the UK.

Association for Preservation Technology - An interdisciplinary organisation dedicated to the knowledge of methods and materials for maintenance, conservation, and protection of buildings, sites and artifacts.

Institute of Civil Engineers - A UK-based international organisation with 80,000 members ranging from professional civil engineers to students.

Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors - The qualifying body for civil engineering specialists working in geospatial engineering and commercial management. Its aim is to improve member services to the public and to encourage the highest standards within the profession.

Environment Agency - The leading public organisation for protecting and improving the environment in England and Wales, working in many ways to achieve this: regulating industry, maintaining flood defences and water resources, and improving wildlife habitats, to name just a few.

International Energy Agency (IEA) - An autonomous agency linked with the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). The IEA is the energy forum for 26 member countries.

Natural Resources Institute - An internationally-recognised centre of expertise in research and consultancy in the environment and natural resources sector.

United Nations Environmental Programme -  The UNEP's mission is to provide leadership and encourage partnership in caring for the environment by inspiring, informing, and enabling nations and peoples to improve their quality of life without compromising that of future generations.

Centre for Housing Policy - Established in 1990 at the University of York with the aim of being a centre of excellence in policy relevant housing research. The Centre is committed to a research focus which explores the relationship between a wide range of housing issues and other aspects of social policy.

Chartered Institute of Housing - A registered charity and the professional body for people working in housing. Its purpose is to maximise the contribution that housing professionals make to the wellbeing of communities, to promote the science and art of housing, its standards and ideals, and the training and education of those engaged in the profession of housing practice. 

The Joseph Rowntree Foundation - An independent, non-political body which supports programmes of research and innovative development in the fields of housing, social care and social policy.

National Housing Federation - The mission of the National Housing Federation is to support and promote the work that housing associations do and campaign for better housing and neighbourhoods.

Shelter - A charity that works to alleviate the distress caused by homelessness and bad housing by giving advice, information and advocacy to people in housing need, and by campaigning for lasting political change to end the housing crisis for good.

Action with Communities in Rural England (ACRE) - The national umbrella body of the Rural Community Action Network (RCAN), which operates at national, regional and local level in support of rural communities across the country. ACRE aim to promote a healthy, vibrant and sustainable rural community sector that is well connected to policy and decision-makers who play a part in delivering this aim. 

Department for the Environment, Food & Rural Affairs - A Government Department in the UK interested in protecting the environment for future generations, making the economy more environmentally sustainable, and improving quality of life and well-being. They are also interested in supporting the farming industry, protecting biodiversity and encouraging sustainable food production.

Regional Studies Association - An independent, inter-disciplinary body concerned with urban and regional planning and development.

Royal Town Planning Institute - The UK's leading planning body specialising in spatial, sustainable, integrative and inclusive planning.

UK Centre for Economic and Environmental Development - Originally set up to support, co-ordinate and monitor implementation of the Conservation and Development Programme for the UK. Its particular remit was to provide an evidence base for demonstrating how environmental protection and economic development priorities could be reconciled and also for promoting the central role of the business sector in environmental improvement. It thus became an early advocate of what was to become known as sustainable development.
