About the Library

Anniesland College Library is open to all current students and college staff.

We offer a bright, modern study space with access to a wide range of resources and a friendly team of qualified staff to help you gain the skills to find what you need.

Library 7

The Library is located on the ground floor of the building - turn right when you come through the main entrance of the college, and we are downstairs at the west side of the building. Our lift is to the right of the stairs.

Services & Facilities

PCs

The Library has 58 PCs, all of which have Windows 7, Office 2010 and free internet access. 25 of these are short-stay PCs, which can be used for up to one hour without booking. If you need a PC for longer than one hour, you can book one of the 32 long-stay PCs for up to three hours at a time.

The Library operates a self-service booking policy, and we advise booking in advance where possible to avoid disappointment. PC bookings can be made online (from home or work if you wish) or by using the kiosk at the top of the stairs outside the library.

Bookings are held for 15 minutes - if you have not logged in within 15 minutes of the booking start time, the reservation is cancelled and the PC is automatically released for someone else to use.

PCs are for individual use only.

Wireless internet

Wireless internet access (or 'wifi') is available throughout the college. If you would like to use your own laptop or phone for internet access, ask at the Library desk for a wifi password.

Your student ID card is required and passwords can be issued for up to 7 days. You can then use your laptop or phone anywhere you choose within the college.

Traditional lending

Library staff work closely with lecturers to ensure that the books stocked in the Library reflect the needs of the curriculum. Should you find that we do not have an essential book for your course, please let us know.

Students can borrow up to 4 items, normally for a period of 2 weeks. Shorter lending periods are shown on the date stamp inside the book if applicable.

DVD lending is restricted to 1 DVD per person for a period of 7 days.

Fines apply for late items - please renew your books or DVD if you wish to keep them for longer without incurring charges.

Electronic resources

Anniesland College students and staff have access to a broad range of electronic resources that can be used from home or work at any time as well as within the college.

Our resources include a large collection of electronic books (ebrary), many of which are key texts. You can copy and paste from these and the citation is provided for you.

Please see the Athens leaflet for further information or speak to a member of Library staff.

Leisure

In addition to academic material, the Library has a large collection of leisure stock. We aim to keep our fiction and DVDs as up to date as possible, and encourage your suggestions for new purchases. We also have a range of children's books (some bi-lingual), graphic novels, young adult fiction and Quick Reads.

Printing, scanning, copying

All students receive £15 print credit from the College. This can be used for photocopying and colour printing (only available from a short-stay PC). Students will only have to pay for printing or copying when the £15 has been used up.

Ask a Librarian

There may be times when you need more in-depth assistance with researching a topic, or finding resources to support your studies. Qualified Library staff can provide a detailed reference desk service for you - speak to us if you wish to arrange an appointment or email us at library@anniesland.ac.uk.

User Guidelines

Library users are reminded that they must adhere to the guidelines set out here at all times. These rules exist for the benefit of everyone using the Library.
