Active Citizenship

This course offers a holistic approach that integrates skills for citizenship alongside those for employability. The course provides an opportunity to develop the skills and attributes that will enable young people to participate fully in Scottish life and work.

Students will develop their employability skills, become actively involved in the local community and investigate voluntary organisations, local amenities and support services. They will progress their communication and interpersonal skills, and will also work towards improving their health and fitness to support them in playing an ‘active’ and effective part in Society.

The course includes SQA Units ranging from Access 2 - Intermediate 1 depending on the individual needs of the student.

Entry requirements

No previous qualifications are necessary and the course is particularly suitable for students who may need to develop their confidence & independence.

Due to the nature of the course students should be able to participate in moderate physical challenges.

1 year Full time (3 days per week), August to June

• Rights and Responsibilities
• Visits to External Civic Bodies eg. Scottish Parliament
• Visits to a Variety of Work Environments
• Exploring Local Amenities & Support Services
• Fundraising / Enterprise Activity
• Collaborations with HND Sport Students & HND Dance Students
• Organising an Event
• Participation in a 5k Event
• Emotional Health & Wellbeing
• Physical Health & Wellbeing

Further Study

This course is excellent preparation for students who may wish to progress onto vocational and /or other courses, voluntary work or employment.

Students will be able to move across the curriculum or progress upwards, where appropriate.
