Literature 1

This module is designed to develop the skill of literary analysis and should also encourage an awareness of social and moral concerns. It should assist you to develop insights into the stylistic processes and social and moral concerns of imaginative writing through your own reading, and enable you to make independent, reasoned judgements about literary texts.

The Literature 1 module may usefully be studied in conjunction with Communication 4 which it complements.

Course content

1. evaluate literary texts in different genres;

2. critically evaluate the use of literary technique;

3. analyse the main ideas and meanings of an unseen literary text.
