Modern Apprenticeships

Well-trained and effective employees are more important than ever for business success. Having a team with the right skills can help you meet business challenges such as competition, growth and innovation.

Developing the employees you need for the future is crucial: with Modern Apprentices (MAs) you can do just that.

Whether you decide to develop existing staff or recruit new employees as Modern Apprentices, your business will benefit.

The college is contracted by Skills Development Scotland to manage a range of Modern Apprenticeships.

We may be able to help you recruit and train a Modern Apprentice in:

Engineering

We provide MA qualifications in numerous engineering disciplines including:

• Marine Engineering

• Fabrication and Welding

• Engineering Maintenance

• Electrical and Electronic Engineering

• Mechanical Manufacturing

• Technical Support

Automotive Engineering

We provide MAs in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair at levels 2 and 3.

As an employer of an apprentice, the benefits are many and varied:

• Improved Productivity – Apprentices will be equipped with the skills and knowledge to fulfil their roles

• Motivated People - by offering MAs you will find it easier to recruit and retain individuals who are motivated and eager to learn

• Relevant Training - MAs have been designed in conjunction with industry professionals to ensure that they are relevant to the marketplace

• Avoid Skills Shortages - MAs will enable you to invest in the future of your business. By taking on an apprentice, you will acquire specialist skills that are up-to-date with new technology.

MAs normally last between one and four years as they are competency based and not time served. Every apprenticeship has an industry approved framework, which includes the following elements:

• Scottish Vocational Qualifications at level 2 and level 3

• Core skills in problem solving, working with others, ICT, communications and numeracy

• An additional industry specific qualification, such as a National Certificate or Higher National Certificate

The college is currently funded by Skills Development Scotland to provide MAs primarily for 16-19 year olds, but also for those aged 20 and over in certain circumstances. Anniesland College will provide support throughout the Modern apprenticeship process.

Your company can access services such as:

• Advertising and pre-interviewing prospective candidates

• Assessment of trainees in the workplace by a designated and fully qualified member of college staff

• Quality teaching from lecturing staff in the college for trainees on day or block release where appropriate

• Trainee progress reviews on a quarterly basis

• Issuing of MA certificate to trainee on completion of their award

All SVQ training fees are borne by Anniesland College via support from Skills Development Scotland.

Vocational Qualifications (VQs)

We also offer stand alone VQs, and you may be eligible to apply for partial funding for these through the Flexible

Training Opportunities Fund. Employees attend college at set times and are also continually assessed in the workplace.

We offer the following:

• SVQ 2 Cleaning & Support Services

• SVQ 2 Facilities Services

• SVQ 3 Facilities Management

• SVQ 2 Gaming Operations
